Tell us a little about yourself!

I am an IT professional. Books are my love and I write sometimes. I joined Bhumi in 2016. I feel education is the most important entity to nurture humanity and develop society.

How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?

I got in touch with Bhumi when I was teaching kids at a slum near my home location. I was in need of stationeries for kids and Bhumi helped in that when I approached them. Later I attended orientation and started as volunteer with Lakshya (mentoring programme).

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?

While working with Bhumi, I met many inspirational personalities, made many good friends. My people handling, management and leadership skills improved. Most importantly it added self-satisfaction and happiness to my life.

One most memorable incident in your life as a Bhumian:

The most important and recent incident was the whole process of helping 3 kids of our shelter homes to get in to college. It taught me the power of not giving up on your mission.

Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration

Tough question, every another person is an inspiration in Bhumi. If it could be one, then Himanshu Singh, last year Lakshya volunteer. Clarity of goal and hardworking approach he has is remarkable. Another Bhumian would be Mayank Purshottam. The way he handles the city operations and treats volunteers with care is really motivational.

Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?

Recently, we went to a school for blind children. I saw them using their fingers to read, feet to measure the distance of classrooms, ears to hear sound of ball and hit. Every part of their body had a sight. I was amazed how they created solution for every challenge with a smile. I went to give my time to them and returned with a big learning from them. That’s the beauty of volunteering.

A message to every volunteer at Bhumi:

You are special. In today’s super-racing life, it’s not easy to spend time for others without any self-interest. Keep volunteering and keep inspiring.
