Tell us a little about yourself!

Eager to experiment in life when it comes to food, travel, and professional skills. I am an IT professional.

How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?

After I shifted to Bangalore I was searching for a place where I can go and teach kids. I joined Bhumi in  June 2013. Earlier I had been part of few institution working for kids but somehow, I couldn’t connect with their vision. After joining Bhumi, it felt like it runs on democracy thumb rule for kids and society. I started with kanini and gradually moved towards NRO.

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?

I have learned a lot about appreciating ourselves. I always believe we should be firm on fulfilling our commitments/promises. I never bothered about myself when it comes to completing task at social, professional and personal.

In beginning there were many incidents where I used to feel oh I am not good at management I couldn’t complete assessment of class. I didn’t reach on time. A guilt feeling was always accompanied wherever I couldn’t meet expectation of others.

After meeting bhumians I realize we should always take time to pamper our self. If you are not feeling well its ok, no need to struggle and crib. Instead save energy and appreciate what all good things you possess

One most memorable incident in your life as a Bhumian:

During Daan Utsav, we visited one children’s home in outskirt of Bangalore. We started discussing about cartoons characters, fast food, health habits etc.. Played dog and bone, kho-kho, funny maths quiz etc. Among those kids there was one timid child. I met that child few days back and she told “Thank you for quiz while playing with us. Now I am not scared and I want to play, study and work like you …”

Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration:

Every volunteer is source of inspiration. Whether its innovative lakshya team, united speakout or smart volunteers helping kids in maths and science, Chenthil’s mission of Clean lake and the Catalyse team to make all events successful.

Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?

A trip with Bhumi volunteers and 150 kids to Mysore on a New Year. While we started preparation, we could raise funds much less than our target. Later on volunteer magic worked and everyone gave their 200% effort and collected funds double that of our estimation. It was raining in morning on new year’s eve and still volunteer came for trip and made it a special day for kids.

A message to every volunteer at Bhumi:

I truly believe we can change world to greater extend and bring close to nature. Every effort counts, so never think you are wasting time. If people who started Bhumi would have thought this than it would haven’t benefited so many kids and volunteers like us. Look forward towards healthy, effecient and socially conscious society.
