Parichay – For a safe childhood

Parichay is a project initiated by Bhumi’s Delhi volunteers as part of the Catalyse programme to spread awareness among children about child abuse and how they should counter such situations. Under this initiative, the volunteers conduct sessions on preventing child abuse at different schools and shelter homes. Currently, sessions are being conducted for children in primary classes.

Evolution of Parichay

Parichay was initiated aiming a healthy childhood for every child. With increasing incidents of child abuse and the widespread ignorance about the issue, Bhumi volunteers started campaigning to create awareness amongst people. The volunteers sensitise students about the possible apprehensive situation they could face and teach them the prevention strategies.


Parichay has been creating a huge impact in safeguarding children by keeping them well-informed about cold, unwelcoming situations. They are given confidence that people are always there to help them, and that they need to report any such abusive incidents. So far, volunteers had identified one such case, which was then reported to Child Line for further action and assistance.

While preparing and finalising the content for Parichay campaign, the only thing that was in my mind was how could it be possible to speak and discuss on such a sensitive topic among the students. As I conducted the session, I understood how few unanswered questions seared through their innocent minds. The children were inquisitive and animated throughout the session. It spurred me on to continue with more sessions, confident that this education is vital”, says a volunteer of Parichay.

Parichay volunteers are determined to conduct several sessions in schools and shelter homes to spread awareness on preventing child abuse, creating awareness among as many children as possible for a safe and healthy childhood.

One of the Centre Authorities where Parichay session was held says, “This session will be very helpful for our students … happy that our students were attentive, and responded actively to your questions”.
