Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a happy-go- lucky girl who loves to sing, laugh and make new friends. I am a HR by profession and an avid movie buff by choice.
How did volunteering with Bhumi happen? (Including beginning, which project you
A year back, I was looking for volunteering opportunities and I stumbled upon the website of Bhumi while googling about the various NGOs present in Bangalore. It instantly connected with me and I signed up on the website. I quickly enrolled for the orientation which was in one of the government schools and I saw people belonging to various age groups attending it. During the orientation, I understood the difference between Catalyse and Ignite, and I opted for Catalyse. However, Hanika from Bhumi gave me a call the next day and convinced me that I am an apt fit for Ignite. Thus, began my journey of teaching arts to 100+ students of 8th grade in Renuka Govt. School. It is a journey that I’ll cherish forever in my life.
What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you,
On a personal front, Bhumi has redefined humility and has taught me the real meaning of privilege. Believe it or not, it also helped strengthen the bond between me and my would-be husband as we attended Bhumi meetings in Vivekananda Park, Indiranagar quite frequently. Bhumi also helped me gain some good friends for life.
One most memorable incident in your life as a Bhumian
Organizing Nakshatra Sports’17 is one of the most memorable incidents for me as a Bhumian. It was harder than I thought and it set a higher bar of expectations in terms of organizing sports events for any kid. I think the core committee of Nakshatra simply rocked!
Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration
I don’t have one, but two! Firstly, I really admired the way Sahithya handled multiple stakeholders while organizing JTW 2016. She did an extremely praiseworthy job when it came to managing the Bhumi volunteers, corporate representatives and shelter homes alike.
Secondly, I think someone who deserves a mention without fail is Chenthil. Right from Nakshatra to lake cleaning, he has been really proactive and passionate about what he does. He is a role model for the entire Bhumi clan.
Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?
I think every moment is special and worth remembering. However, the best moment was when one of the kids tried giving me something that she loved and told me to keep it since she liked my teaching. Although I gave her back that very thing, the kind gesture almost brought tears to my eyes.
A message to every volunteer at Bhumi
Bhumi is an amazing organization and each one of us should be applauded for the efforts that we put in to make the lives of the people around us better and brighter. The responsibility of making Bhumi shine rests on our shoulders as citizens of this beautiful country!
