Inspiring Change – Sree Ram Murali from Chennai

When we witness the metamorphosis of Bhumi’s once students, taught by our volunteers, now turning into volunteers themselves, we feel we are inching closer in the right direction towards our vision of an educated and thriving India.

Sree Ram’s is an inspiring example of an individual’s will and passion to give back to the society which plays a pivotal role in his growth and success. He recently signed up as a Bhumi volunteer and teaches mathematics to children at one of Bhumi’s shelter homes in Chennai. Let’s get an insight into his story and the impact Bhumi has made in his life.

Sree Ram hails from Chennai, living modestly with his father and mother. Being the only child to his parents, Sree Ram felt the drive to give his parents a comfortable living from a very early age.

He did his schooling from a government school in Thoraipakkam. He had always been a keen learner with sharp grasping abilities. It was in 2017 when he was in the 9th standard we first came in contact with Sree Ram. As part of BHUMI’s “Kanini” (computer) project, our volunteers taught basic computer science to the students in his school. Sree Ram was quick to learn software like MS Paint, MS Office and in these classes. His favorite teaching volunteers who left an impression on him are Ragul (a) Deiva Narayanan, Suman, Amit, and Rathika.

In 2019, he joined the Central Polytechnic College in Tharamani to pursue a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. While being dedicated to his studies, Sree Ram wanted to devote his time to contribute to society. He wanted to emulate his Akkas and Annas from Bhumi whose teachings propelled him towards his life goals. His sole intention was to disseminate the knowledge he had gathered over the years to children who had little or no access to a good education.

He teaches number identification, arithmetics, time, measurements and basic mathematics and loves spending time with children. He wants them to gain knowledge and serve the needy in the future.

With such noble intentions and actions of our students turned volunteers, we at Bhumi feel a sense of pride and accomplishment! It keeps us unwavered on our path to transform India through education.
