Bhumi, India’s largest independent and youth volunteer non-profit organisation, has collaborated with TikTok, the world’s leading short video platform, to launch the #CleanIndia Campaign. The campaign aims to mobilise TikTok community to contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission to achieve universal sanitation coverage and draw focus on it in the country.
As part of the partnership, TikTok has launched a campaign #CleanIndia on the platform to encourage users to participate in this challenge by cleaning their neighbourhood and showcasing their work on TikTok by posting before and after videos. Bhumi will conduct and host cleanliness drives across multiple cities pan India to encourage TikTok users and citizens to volunteer in this mission. The entire campaign will culminate into 100+ events spread across 30+ cities, starting from August 2nd until October 2nd, 2019 to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary and help achieve the Swachh Bharat Mission of a cleaner India.
“We are delighted to partner with TikTok to take our mission forward and realize the Clean India vision. With the collaboration, our aim is to encourage TikTok community to volunteer and encourage others towards cleanliness of our surrounding areas. We also encourage the TikTok users to become part of our Clean Squad and supplement the Swachh Bharat Mission and improving universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible, green and public spaces.” said Dr. Prahalathan KK, Co-founder, Bhumi.
Bhumi provides a platform to volunteer for civic issues that matter to them. Over 20,000 volunteers contribute towards various causes like Education, Environment, Animal Welfare, clocking over three lakh hours of volunteering each year.
As a part of its Catalyse program, Bhumi has organised multiple large-scale cleanliness campaigns across India. One such major campaign taken up by Bhumi is the Vibhuthipura lake clean-up project in Bangalore. During the project, the volunteers cleaned up the lake area in December 2016. More than 7,000 kg of garbage was collected, with the support of 250 volunteers in just 27 days.
Another such instance of a major cleanliness drive is from Mumbai, where Bhumi volunteers have worked consistently for more than 700 hours to clear nearly 6,000 kgs of waste from Mumbai beaches. Their efforts are ongoing and such beach clean up drives are organised every weekend to encourage Mumbaikars to come out of their homes and protect the beaches.
Clean India Mission’ is a campaign that aims at making cleanliness a national habit through volunteering. This mission is directly linked with the economic health of the nation. The Mission is a combined effort of Bhumi and the TikTok in order to change the attitude of people towards sanitation and hygiene. Lets volunteer and work towards a cleaner and greener India , as rightly put by Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Be the change that you wish to see.’
