Job Description: Lead to Manager – Volunteer Engagement (Depends on Experience)
Locations: Chennai 
Job nature: Permanent Full-time

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Plan and strategise HR aspects of volunteer management within cities and across new cities with set goals
• Managing and coordinating with project specific HR managers and city level coordinators and managers related to volunteer management aspects
• Coordinating Training and Induction of new volunteers nationally
• Facilitating volunteer engagement activities at city, project and national level through physical meets and social media
• Tracking and monitoring volunteer attendance nationally and coordinating with volunteer recruitment team to fulfil volunteer shortage
• Facilitating volunteer recognition through city teams and coordinating annual volunteer awards
• Volunteer feedback management and managing volunteer database

Preferred Education Qualification / Experience:
• Work experience – essential
• Any graduation – essential

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – English, Hindi and/or Tamil
• Basic computer skills – Word, Excel, Powerpoint – essential
• Proactive, Self-Monitored, Resourceful, Accountable
• Problem solving and Decision making skills are essential
• Willingness to travel as required
• Having a two wheeler – desirable

• Reporting to: Ignite – Programme Director
• Expected Age: Below 35
• Scope: Willing to work flexible hours
• Remuneration (Chennai) – Rs.25,000 – Rs.30,000 p.m
• Expected Joining Date: Immediate

Bhumi’s supplementary education programme benefits children from shelter homes, slum and village community centres. The programme is delivered during the weekends by young, trained volunteers of Bhumi. The personal growth through the programme is evident in both volunteers and children – our volunteers gain perspective and the experience to mould themselves into leaders in their communities, while academic/life skills support creates a better future for the children.

Present  structure:

  • Duration of project: 3-5 years per subject
  • Target group: Classes 1-9
  • Number of classes per week per child: 2 classes (each class being 2 hours)
  • Number of hours per year: 100-120
  • Number of children per class: 5-10
  • Number of volunteer teachers per class: 1-2
  • Duration of programmes: 9 months
  • Total contact hours per volunteer: 50-60 hours.

Expectation from Bhumi volunteers:

  • 1 class of 2 hours each every week
  • 1 hour for class preparation/week
  • 1 hour to travel to and fro to orphanage/community centre
  • 1-3 days of training per year
  • Actively participate in the discussions
