Ignite Fest is Bhumi’s annual inter-shelter home event where children from our shelter homes display their learnings in interesting ways. Volunteers also organize different workshops to engage the children throughout the day. It’s a culmination of all the efforts volunteers put in throughout the year to teach these children. Capabilities.
Our Trichy team organized this fest on March 8 this year. The life skills project organized two interesting workshops during this fest for the children.
First Aid Workshop:
Guaranteeing our children are safe in school is one of the top priorities of parents, teachers and school administration. This has brought first aid training to the forefront making it a priority for us in Ignite Fest.
First aid training for students provides them with the life-saving techniques needed to provide an initial response in the event of a medical emergency. Initial medical response training empowers students with the tools and information they need to offer help for others in the event of a nosebleed, or if someone is choking, unresponsive, has a broken bone, an allergic reaction, or an asthma attack (among others).
First aid training for students not only provides a valuable life skill, but they also learn to be responsible for the welfare of others, adding to the sense of community within a school. Our focus was mainly to make kids beware of basic safety measures to be taken and how to use a first aid kit during emergencies.
General Knowledge about Racism:
Children were shown various famous personalities (both famous for good and bad actions) and asked to identify them, along with it they were asked to judge them based on their appearance and to term them as a good person and a bad person. Later we discussed with them about the actions they performed and covered various topics including religion, caste, race, color, etc.
At the end of this activity, they understood that the actions of human beings cannot be used to determine their religion, caste, etc.
